School Committee

The St. Edith Catholic School Committee is a standing committee of the St. Edith Education Commission and is accountable to that body as an advisory committee to the pastor and the principal. The nature and purpose of the School Committee is to promote an atmosphere of stability, confidence, unity and cooperation in the school and parish community by fostering an appreciation for the ideas of a Catholic education.  Its goal is to continually maintain awareness of the needs (both spiritual and temporal) of St. Edith School; to advise on spiritual, academic, and marketing initiatives of the school; and to recommend policies related to the operation of the school, consistent with the school philosophy, parish goals, and Archdiocesan guidelines. We meet the first Tuesday of the month, September through May. Please consider joining one of our meetings. They are open to all parents/guardians. 

Areas of Committee Responsibility:

  • Assist Pastor & Principal with School Planning
  • Policy Recommendation
  • Broad, general & direction setting
  • Guide to discretionary action
  • Marketing & development
  • Communication
  • Evaluation of School Committee Goals

What the School Committee does not do:

  • Develop programs
  • Approve materials
  • Hire or terminate staff
  • Tell the Principal how to do things
  • Act as a grievance council
  • Send out questionaires without the authority of the Pastor and Principal

 

What can you do?

  • Join Our Meetings
    • Meet 1st Tuesday of each month throughout the school year (see school calendar for latest dates)
    • 6pm – 7pm in the School Library
    • Non-committee members may attend
    • Any item must be presented two (2) weeks prior to a meeting to be added to the agenda
  • Provide Feedback
  • Promote St. Edith

Purpose

  • To survey continually the needs (both spiritual and temporal) of St. Edith School;
  • To set goals;
  • To develop and recommend policies related to the operation of the school in with the vision of St. Edith Parish.
